Privacy policy

We keep this simple: we collect as little as we can, we never sell it, and we use it only to run the ZJ5K and our scholarships.

Effective October 7, 2026

Who we are

The Warfield Brothers Foundation, a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit operating under “Zack Warfield Memorial Foundation Inc.” (EIN 46-4430076), P.O. Box 2106, Columbus, OH 43216. Questions about this policy: events@warfieldbrothers.org.

What we collect, and why

Request a pin

When you ask us to add a place to the ZJ5K map, we receive the place you name, the state or country, the year(s) you ran there, and any note you add. If the place goes on the map, only the place itself is shown, never your name or note. Please don’t include street addresses; the form refuses them.

Email is optional. If you give it, we use it once, to tell you your place is on the map, and then delete it, whether we add the place or not. It is never shown on the site.

The ZJ5K map

When you tap “I was there,” we add one to that place’s count. We don’t record who you are. To stop repeat or automated taps, our server keeps a scrambled, one-way code made from your internet address (a salted hash), never the address itself. Your browser remembers which places you marked so you can undo it. Memories you type into the map stay in your own browser; they aren’t sent to us or shown to anyone else.

When you search for a place, our server looks it up with Photon, an OpenStreetMap service, so your internet address isn’t sent to Photon. Map images come from Esri, and the map’s code and fonts load from cdnjs and Google Fonts, so those services see a normal web request from your browser.

Donations

Donations are processed by PayPal. PayPal shares your name, email and the amount with us so we can thank you and keep tax records. We never see or store card or bank numbers. PayPal’s own privacy policy applies to the payment.

Shirts

The ZJ5K store runs on Bonfire. Orders, payment and shipping details go to Bonfire, under Bonfire’s privacy policy; we don’t receive your payment details.

Email updates

If you’ve given us your email for the ZJ5K or our scholarships, we may send occasional updates through Mailchimp. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

Site statistics

We may use a site statistics tool, such as Google Analytics or Jetpack Stats, to see how many people visit and which pages are useful. These tools use cookies and report in aggregate; we don’t use them to identify you.

Photos and scholarship recipients

Photos on our site and map come from posts people shared with the ZJ5K. For scholarship recipients in Los Angeles we show only a first name and last initial. If you’d like a photo, name or place removed, email us and we’ll take it down.

What we don’t do

We don’t sell, rent or trade personal information, and we don’t use it for advertising. We share it only with the services named above, to do the job described, or when the law requires.

Children

The site isn’t meant to collect information from children under 13. The pin form asks anyone under 13 to check with a parent before adding an email. If you think a child sent us personal information, email us and we’ll delete it.

Your choices

You can ask us what we have about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, at events@warfieldbrothers.org.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update it here and change the effective date above.
